Deputy Principal Update
Enrol for Prep 2025 now!
Our enrolments for Prep 2025 have commenced. If you have a child born between July 2019-June 2020 they are eligible to enrol for Prep for next year. When a family enrol their child to school, the school begin planning for the student, including orientation and class placement. We look forward to welcoming our prospective students through orientation and school visits in Term 4. If your child attends a local Kindergarten program they may already be visiting.
We have had a wonderful time celebrating teaching and learning, including National Science Week and Children’s Book Week. Thank you for your attendance at events as well as our KindyLinQ and local Kindy friends.
Don’t forget about our 'Student Success at Kingston State School' afternoon on Wednesday, 28 August. During this time, you will be invited to visit your student’s classroom to view the learning they have completed this term and work they are most proud of. We look forward to welcoming you into classrooms to showcase our awesome students. This afternoon is also an opportunity to visit FamilyLinQ and connect with service providers.
Our current behaviour focus, be respectful, has had a specific focus on transitions to explicitly teach and reinforce what it looks, sounds and feels like to transition respectfully in the classroom, playground and eating areas. This provides an opportunity for families to discuss and reflect on respectful transitions to and from school and how our students move around the school safely and respectfully.
Family Linq Update
We are very excited to welcome our Kingston State School families to our 'Student Success at Kingston'. This is an exclusive invitation for Kingston State School families.
Children's Book Week
During week 7 we celebrated Children’s Book Week. This year’s theme was “Reading is Magic” and we had the most magical of weeks.
Throughout the week we had arts and crafts in the library, where students designed their own bookmarks and badges. We held daily readings on the lawn of our teachers’ favourite books and we spent some lunchtimes creating concrete gardens and listened to bed time stories from Miss Rigg.
Our main event of the week was our Character Parade and this year was our most wonderful yet. The students and teachers looked fantastic dressed as their favourite book characters.
We finished the week with a Teddy Bears’ Reading Picnic where our students brought their teddies along to read to.
A huge thank-you to all our staff and families for the amazing effort they put in to make this week an engaging and fun week for our students.

School Support Officer Information
What is a School Support Officer (SSO)?
School Support Officers are Queensland Police Service (QPS) employees working collaboratively with state primary schools to help prevent student disengagement and provide support to students and families. SSO’s are not police officers. They do not have police powers, wear police uniforms, or carry guns or tasers. They are skilled at working with young people.
What do School Support Officers do?
SSOs support primary school-aged children through early intervention initiatives within the school environment. This may include engagement, age-appropriate programs, presentations, and support service referrals.
Engagement
SSO’s engage with students through activities including school and classroom visits, assembly presentations, and assistance with school activities such as sporting carnivals.
SSO’s may assist through a range of strategies to support engagement where students have been absent from school for extended periods.
Programs
SSOs may deliver programs to students, staff, or parents. This could include external programs, such as the ThinkUKnow program for preventing online child sexual exploitation or assisting school staff to deliver departmental programs.
Referrals
SSOs will support the Department of Education’s referral process and will refer children and families to government and non-government stakeholders when deemed necessary for support.
Please make an appointment at the office to see me.
Thank you
Julie
Speech Pathology Update
Communicate Your Way is the theme for this year’s Speech Pathology Week (25–31 August 2024). Departmental speech language pathologists (SLPs) empower students to communicate through a range of strategies including speech, alternative augmentative communication (AAC) systems, writing, texting/typing, gestures, sign language and body language. Our SLPs assist our school teams to enable students with communication disability to communicate and learn at school so they can reach their potential. Thank you to Kiarne and Emily for the work they do at Kingston State School to support our students.
Learn more about the different ways of communicating through the Communication Hub.
Road Safety Update
Queensland Road Safety Week runs from 26 – 30 August 2024, with the theme ‘We’re One Team Queensland. Let’s drive like it’.

Social Emotional Learning Update
Last week, our school participated in the National Week of Action Against Bullying. Classes joined together to learn about what bullying is, what to do if you are bullied and how you can help someone else being bullied. Students were also able to take part in our competition to create Kingston Kindness Cards, which will be used throughout the year to promote kindness in our school.
Thank you to our generous local businesses (Kmart Woodridge, Area 51, Logan City Tenpin and an anonymous community member) for vouchers for our Kingston Kindness Card competition. These vouchers and gifts provided an incentive for our students and also helped to create a fun atmosphere to promote kindness. We appreciate these businesses supporting our school community and helping to raise awareness of this important message.
You'll see and hear more about these as we move through the year. I'm sure you'll agree that not only do we have amazing artists at KSS, we have students who want to share some powerful messages.
