Principal Update
Good morning everyone,
We have another busy week ahead of us here at Kingston State School! Keep your eye out for some amazing photos to share what our staff and students will be doing this week to acknowledge National Science Week.
Just a further reminder about this year’s School Opinion Survey runs from 22 July to 16 August 2024. Parents, caregivers and students are encouraged to participate. Your insights will help us know what our school does well and how we can improve. Participants will be emailed a link to access the survey the week before it opens. Survey responses are confidential. The survey usually takes less than 10 minutes to complete. More information can be found on the School Opinion Survey webpage or by contacting the school.
Deputy Principal Update
Our teaching team have been reviewing curriculum and teaching updates across the department and are working together to continue to deliver high quality teaching and learning across the school. We have an amazing teaching team who are committed to our students’ continuous improvement in engagement, learning and wellbeing.
We are looking forward to upcoming events across the school to celebrate teaching and learning, including National Science Week and Children’s Book Week. We look forward to your attendance at events.
Another event to add to your calendar is our Success at Kingston State School afternoon from 2:00-2.50pm on Wednesday, 28 August. During this time, you will be invited to visit your student’s classroom to view the learning they have completed this term and work they are most proud of. We look forward to welcoming you into classrooms to showcase our awesome students. This afternoon is also an opportunity to engage with our FamilyLinQ team, with further information to be released closer to the date.
Our current behaviour focus, be safe, has had a specific focus on safety in the playground to explicitly teach and reinforce what it looks, sounds and feels like to be safe in this space. This provides an opportunity for families to discuss and reflect on safe behaviour with their children including, being in the right place at the right time, wearing a hat, using self-control (hands, feet, mouth and objects to myself), and using the High 5 to problem solve.

Inclusion Update
My first 3 weeks here at Kingston SS have been brilliant and busy. I have really been working on getting around and meeting staff, students and parents. Thank you to those parents who have taken the time to meet with me and other members of the team to help your kids. It really helps them when we show them that school and home are all on the same page.
Last time I was asked to write for the News Letter, I introduced the first stage of an activity we could do with our kids to add to our connection time and do some motor skills work, in order to ultimately build short term memory capacity. Well now that we have made our number cards, we can get down to the business of PLAYING GAMES!
The first game we are going to play with our kids using the number cards is SNAP! You might know it or have played it when you were a kid. The game helps to build number recognition, recognition of ‘like things’, reaction time, a little bit of memory work, knowing which cards have come before and of course, connection to our kids!
The rules are as follows:
- Play begins with the oldest member of the group.
- It moves clockwise
- Each player lifting and exposing in turn the top card of his pile.
- At any time during the game that a player sees two cards alike turned up on the table he calls "Snap".
- The first player to call “Snap" takes all of the cards in the piles which are covered by the like cards.
Remember, if you would like to contact me around matters of inclusion, I am but an email away on gkarp1@eq.edu.au
