** Principal's Update **

Parent teacher interviews are next week.  Thank you to all parents and care givers who have already booked in a time to speak with your child's teacher.  It is also a great time to learn about what your child is learning, how they are going with their learning and what the next steps are towards success.  On Tuesday, the day of the interviews, the gate near the Hall will stay open until 6pm.  We encourage parents to park in that carpark as all other gates will remain closed at the normal time.  The main pedestrian gate into FamilyLinQ will shut at 4pm, as will the carpark next to the Administration block.

Please also remember that Friday 5th September is a Student Free Day.  This will mean that the school is closed.  FamilyLinQ will still be operational on that day.

Thank you,

Robyn Marshall

Principal

Teacher Aide Appreciation Week 2025

Next week we will celebrate and acknowledge our Teacher Aides at Kingston State School. It is about recognising, respecting and celebrating what they do to make our school accessible, safe, supportive and engaging place to learn.  They do an amazing job of keeping our school running, learning continuing and keeping our community safe. It’s time to celebrate everything they do. Without our teacher aides, education wouldn’t happen!

Sports Days Celebrations

During our Senior parade on Monday the age champions were announced and received their medallions.

9 year old champions - Mackenzie and Keynnen

10 year old champions - Summer and Jahkeem

11 year old champions – Justiss and Dre

12 year old champions – Chevonta and Aston

The winning house for sports day was Ngaram.

Congratulations to all the students that competed on the day.

Student Celebration

Congratulations to all our students who received Student of the Week certificates this week. We enjoyed celebrating student achievement in reading and wellbeing.

Enrol now for High school

If your child is in Year 6, now is the time to enrol in high school. If you enrol at Kingston State College before 28 November 2025, you go into the draw to win an ipad. It is important to secure your child’s place before the end of the year.

** Head of Special Education Update **

The Department’s Disability Service Plan reaffirms our vision for Equity and Excellence in everything we do. We all contribute to valuing culture and creating inclusive teaching, learning and work environments for all people with disability.

This plan outlines actions from 2025–2028 to support children, students, young people and staff with disability to realise their potential.

This plan was developed in partnership with staff and students with disability, parent advocacy groups, disability service providers and other key stakeholders.

In 2024 across Queensland data showed;

5 450

children with disability enrolled in a Queensland based kindergarten program

25.3%

of all students in Queensland state schools have disability

37.2%

of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in Queensland state schools have disability

5.2%

of Department of Education employees identify as having disability

Please read the new plan that outlines the actions that will be undertaken to support all students

** Year 4 Update **

The Year 4 students have been very busy this term! In English, we have been learning all about persuasive writing. We are practising how to state our opinions clearly, use strong reasons, and convince our audience with powerful words. The students have enjoyed creating arguments on fun topics and sharing their ideas with the class.

We also had a fantastic time during Science Week. The Year 4s joined in rotations with different classes and teachers, exploring hands-on activities and learning new scientific ideas in exciting ways.

It has been a wonderful few weeks of learning, and Year 4 is looking forward to more exciting times ahead…..

This term KSS is focusing on explicit instruction and what that looks/feels/sounds like. Explicit instruction involves having whole school routines for consistency and one routine that KSS are excelling in, is our whiteboard routines.

Park it – Whiteboard, marker and rubber are parked.

Hover it – Hover your answer face down before revealing.

Chin it – Reveal your answer.

Window it – Create four sections on your whiteboard for answers.

These routines have been embedded throughout out teaching and are a favourite when teaching maths and English units.

** FamilyLinQ Update **

What an exciting week it has been here at FamilyLinQ! We had a wonderful time celebrating Crazy Hair Day on Tuesday. Lots of children came into the hub to go crazy with their hair. We were all very impressed how the kids looked – check out the photos!!

We have also announced the winners to the NAIDOC colouring competition. There were so many beautiful entries and many people voted including teachers, parents, health staff members and the FamilyLinQ team. Thank you to all of the children who entered and congratulations to the winners. We hope you enjoy the prizes!

We have had a change to our team this week with Jess (senior community connector) moving on from the position. We wish well in her new endeavours!

Week 8 should be a busy one, we have Rachael coming in for Crafty Conversations on Tuesday, Kids Clubs will be on Tuesday to Thursday after school, and our playgroups are going well with many children making friends – even the babies!

If you need support or have questions around child development, employment, finances or children’s health then please come in and talk to our friendly team.

Take care,

The FamilyLinQ team
