** Principal's Update **
Welcome back to Term 3. It is hard to believe that we are now in the second half of the year. We have had a very settled start to the term, with our staff working hard to ensure that our learners have had the best start to the term as possible.
On the last week of term, we celebrated our students at our Semester 1 Principal’s Parade. We acknowledged Academic Achievement and Excellence in Effort at this parade. We also had many special guests who presented certificates to our students. After the parade, award recipients and their families were invited to stay and share morning tea. It was a lovely celebration of learning. Please check out our photo gallery below.
You may have noticed that we have had a lot of work happening on site over the holidays. We have had some buildings painted externally, and internally, with new carpet also laid in some classrooms. This 'refresh' looks amazing as we continue to provide an aesthetic pleasing school environment for our students and staff.
We work hard to ensure that our students and staff have a school that is not only well maintained, but also safe. We have high expectations for all of our students in that when they are at school, they keep themselves and others safe, including our staff. Our students have a right to be safe when they come to school, and our staff have a right to be safe in their workplace.
So many amazing things happen at Kingston State School - just have a look at this edition of the newsletter alone! Our dedicated staff tirelessly provide opportunities for our kids to learn and grow, both in the classroom and beyond. They also spark interest in learning through the planning of exciting and innovative events. The promotion of positive initiatives to support positive behaviour has been a strength for a long time at Kingston. I am so proud of our students and staff here at Kingston.
Enjoy the week ahead,
Robyn Marshall

** Deputy Principal's Update **
Our students have had a wonderful start to Term 3. The Reboot focus and the review of class expectations has helped to remind students of our school expectations. They have been working hard with their teacher to review what it looks, sounds and feels like to be a safe and respectful learner at school. Our classrooms have been calm, with students engaging in learning.
Sports Days
Wednesday 23 July the Preps – Year 3 will participate in the Junior Sports Day. They will compete in running races, and various “athletic” activities in class groups. The day will run from 9:00am – 12:50pm. Parents are more than welcome to cheer and support their children.
Thursday 24 July Year 4 – 6 will compete in the Senior Sports Day. They will compete in sprints, shot put, long jump and high jump. This will be an all-day event and parents are welcome to cheer their children on.

Year 6 High School visit
In Week 9 of Term 2 our Year 6 students had the opportunity to spend the day at Kingston State College. They participated in various activities from doing science experiments, playing sports and learning a dance.
During Science, the students were given the task to make the tallest marshmallow spaghetti tower. They worked in groups to plan how this would look to ensure that a large marshmallow was being supported at the top of the tower. The tallest stable tower was 68cm tall.
The students were also asked to complete a circuit to turn a light on and have the propeller move using various circuit breakers and batteries. There were a number of different circuits and some great discussion to get the light to turn on.
Learning a dance from the beginning was very different and out of some of students’ comfort zones, however, the students had a go (with some staff members) and were in time with the music which is an achievement in itself.
During the PE lessons there was a lot of team challenges and working together as a group on the new multipurpose courts.
Our Year 6 students and teachers look forward to visiting Kingston State College again to experience what it is like in high school.

Welcome back!
Along with the engaging units our teaching staff have planned Term Three brings with it lots of fun and exciting events in the area of teaching and learning. Below is some information on two of our biggest events.

In week 5 we will celebrate National Science Week. This year’s theme is Decoding the Universe. Students will have the chance to participate in a range of fun and engaging activities and competitions so look out for information on this.

Book Week
One of our biggest celebrations this term is Children’s Book Week. Celebrated in Week 6, it will be filled with ‘magical’ activities all week. This year’s theme is “Book an Adventure” and we look forward to celebrating the magic of reading with your children.
Our annual Book Week Character Parades will be held on Thursday, August 21st. All students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite character. The Prep – Year 3 parade will commence at 9:15am and the Year 4 – Year 6 parade will commence at 11:40am. Both parades will be held in the hall. We invite all our families and friends to attend.
This year we will also hold a session for our school community on reading. This practical session will provide you information on how reading is taught in our classrooms and how you can support your children as they develop and grow as readers. We look forward to welcoming you all for these events.
We will be sending home more information on our Book Week events in the next couple of weeks.
We look forward to seeing you all at these events.

Kingston 'K'redits – Term 3 Update & Rewards Day!
At Kingston, we are continuing to build a positive and respectful school culture through our Kingston Kredit system, which recognises students for demonstrating our school values both in and out of the classroom.
Throughout Term 3, students will continue to earn Kredits for:
- Positive behaviour and attitude
- Demonstrating responsibility and respect
- Working hard and striving for personal best
- Supporting and encouraging peers
How it works:
Each Kredit earned is recorded and contributes to the student’s cumulative total. Students can track their progress and aim for key milestones. Our staff are committed to acknowledging and celebrating consistent, value-driven behaviour across all year levels
Term 3 Rewards Day!
To celebrate our students’ efforts, we will be holding a Kingston Kredits Rewards Day at the end of Term 3. Students who have reached the required Kredit threshold will be invited to participate in a 'Brilliant Bubble Bonanza' (bubble party). More details, including dates and activities, will be shared closer to the event.
We encourage families to talk with their children about the values we celebrate at school and to continue supporting positive behaviour at home.
Thank you for helping us create a safe, respectful, and engaged learning environment for all students!
Lunchtime Detectives – Promoting Calm, Consistent Lunch Routines
At Kingston, we are continuing to support calm and consistent routines throughout the school day with our Lunchtime Detectives approach. This initiative helps reinforce our high expectations during lunch transitions and eating time, setting students up for success in the afternoon.
Each day, staff observe and acknowledge classes that demonstrate excellence in the following four key areas during eating times:
- Students arrive on time:
- Quietly line up with their class before the eating bell.
- Enter the classroom calmly and quietly when the eating bell rings.
- Sit and eat quietly at their own desk, in their designated classroom space (unless otherwise advised).
- Remain seated during the entire eating time.
- Use the toilets and get drinks during play or transition time – not during eating time.
- Leave the eating area clean and tidy.
- Be settled and ready to begin learning when the second bell goes.
When a class meets all four expectations, they are acknowledged and rewarded with points.
Classes will work together to earn daily points, building towards the exciting Week 10 Pizza Party! This reward celebrates consistency, teamwork, and commitment to high standards across the term.
Thank you for your ongoing support in helping us foster respectful, responsible routines at Kingston!

** FamilyLinQ Update **
Welcome to Term 3, KSS Families!
We’re excited to be back for another term and would love to see you around the FamilyLinQ space. We’ve got a great line-up of programs this term and there’s something for everyone.
KidsClub is on every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon in Term 3. We’re starting in Week 2 with cupcake making and arts and crafts, running until 3:30 PM in the FamilyLinQ space. Children need to be with a parent or carer to take part.
We’re also welcoming back Jayden from Gunya Meta, who will run the Move Your Body sessions every Tuesday after school. It’s a fun and active way for KSS students to get moving. Again, a parent or carer must be present and stay during the session.
Hearing checks are available for your child every second Thursday – pop in to book an appointment or just come on the day.
Additionally, we are pleased to promote the Circle of Security Parenting Program that will be run by Kingston East Neighbourhood Group at FamilyLinQ. This will also start on Wednesday 30 July 2025 (Week 3) and will run for 8 weeks from 9am to 11am. Participants will receive a certificate for completing this parenting course. Please speak to a Community Connector in FamilyLinQ – limited availability!
We would also like to give a warm welcome to Kodie Tunley, our new Identified Community Connector. Kodie is here to support Indigenous cultural activities and is available to connect with and support Indigenous families. Please pop into FamilyLinQ to say hello.
In Week 3, we’ll be celebrating NAIDOC Week with a colouring competition. Colouring sheets will be sent home in your child’s school bag. Return the finished artwork to FamilyLinQ and we’ll proudly display them. Prizes include Lego and craft packs for the winners to choose from.

We’re looking forward to a fun and connected term ahead. Come say hi any time.
The FamilyLinQ Team
