Principal Update

I would like to extend my thanks to the entire school community for the warm welcome I have received as the acting principal while Mrs. Marshall is on long service leave. It has been a true pleasure to become a part of such an enthusiastic and dedicated school environment.

In the short time I’ve been here, I’ve had the opportunity to visit many classrooms, and I am impressed by the hard work happening across all year levels. It is great to see both students and staff engaged in such meaningful and focused learning. The enthusiasm and commitment of everyone here is evident in every lesson, and it’s been pleasing to witness this firsthand.

One of the most encouraging aspects of my classroom visits has been observing how confidently students can articulate not only what they are learning but also why they are learning it. It’s clear that our students have a deep understanding of their learning journeys. They are able to reflect on their progress, discuss how they’re going, and identify areas they want to improve.

I look forward to continuing to work alongside such a dedicated team of teachers, students, and families. Thank you again for making me feel so welcome

Patrick Mackle

Strategies

A strategy is something you do on purpose to help yourself feel better, stay calm to make a good choice. It is like a tool you keep in your brain’s toolbox. The students are building on their strategies to support them in being ready to cross the line of opportunity. These are some examples of the strategies the students might use.

We use strategies to help us fix tricky feelings or challenging problems.

GALA Day

In Week 3 we had a number of students from Year 4, 5 and 6 represent Kingston State School at the local GALA Sports Days. The staff have shared some photos and a snap shot of the sports

On the 8th of May, 3 teams from Kingston State School competed against 3 teams in volleyball from Marsden SS and 3 teams from Logan Village SS. The students played fairly, encouraged their peers and opponents, improved their skills as the day went on, and had lots of fun. At the end of the day, Kingston came out on top beating Marsden by just 1 point! I am incredibly proud of all the students who participated and hope they are equally as proud of themselves.

Miss Claffey

The soccer team travelled to Woodridge North to verse 6 strong competitors in soccer. They all played 5 tough matches with 2 wins and 3 losses, with an end result of 3rd place on the day. Everybody represented Kingston proudly displaying respect for the coaches and teams. Honourable mention to David and Imran who gave their everything every match. Well done to the soccer team.

Mr Sharpe

Our senior boys and girls proudly represented Kingston State School at Marsden State School for the Gala Day Oztag competition. With determination and teamwork, both teams played with heart and skill, winning 5 out of 7 games. Their efforts earned them an impressive 2nd place in their division—an outstanding achievement we’re all proud of.

** HOSES **

In Queensland,  May is a month for celebrating the 50th birthday of the Disability Services Act, 1975, which supports people with disabilities and their families. Additionally, Queensland has various initiatives throughout the year to support students with disabilities, including resources and information available on the Education Queensland website.

Equity and Excellence: realising the potential of every student is our plan for every state school student, focusing on educational achievement, wellbeing and engagement, and culture and inclusion. Supporting our students, including students with disability, to engage in education is essential for our young people to thrive and to realise their potential.

We continue to monitor student outcomes and engagement as we know students who attend school regularly, are engaged in the classroom and progress in their learning are more likely to have better outcomes across their schooling journey.

The inclusive education policy External link outlines our commitment to support students in an inclusive and equitable education system.

All Queensland state school students have a right to attend their local state school, access and participate in high-quality education and fully engage in the curriculum alongside their similar-aged peers, supported by reasonable adjustments.

The month of August each year is when we process collected data to support teachers to deliver the curriculum. Here at Kingston State School, we follow the K-12 Framework so that every student is given the best opportunity to be successful in their learning. Some students will require adjustments in the curriculum to support their learning.

We also had Oral Health run their Healthy Mouths program where the children got to learn all about keeping their teeth healthy and parents got to book their children into follow up appointments that they needed.

This day was also important because it was the last day for Marnie Julin as the Senior Community Connector. We thank Marnie for the wonderful work she did with families and partners and wish her all the best in her role with the libraries.
