** Principal Update **

It’s Guidance Officer Week (28 April to 9 May) and we’re celebrating the invaluable contribution of our guidance officers, Mrs Collins and Ms Candy. They provide our students with educational, mental health and wellbeing support.
On behalf of all of our school community, we thank them both for them both for their dedication to our Kingston State School community.
Thank you to all of our parents and carers who were in attendance at both of our Senior and Junior Cross Country event. We had beautiful weather to watch our students try their best on the cross country course. Thank you to Mr Tamala and our Sports Captains for their efforts in organising such a successful event.
FamilyLinq also held their Community Fun Fair on Friday. It was wonderful to see so many of our families in attendance during the afternoon. Many local services were in attendance and if you weren't able to attend, make sure you drop in and enrol in FamliyLinq to see what is on offer. Thank you to FamilyLinq staff for their dedication to community and organisation of our Community Fun Fair.

Reboot Lessons - Self-Regulation
The students will be looking at ways that work for them to cross the line of opportunity and be ready to learn in all areas at school. They will focus on to how to choose the best road for them and be successful when they choose a self-regulation strategy that works for them. Self-regulation is how we manage our thoughts, feelings and actions, especially when things get tough. It’s what helps you stay calm, make good choices and keep going even when things get really hard. We ask our students with how they are feeling and do a self-check.
A few simple strategies to support our students in various situations could be to like 5 things you see, 4 things you hear, 3 things you feel, 2 things you can smell and 1 thing that you can taste, breathing activities or a squeeze ball. These strategies are available for students to access at school and support them in regulating to be a learning at school.

** Curriculum Update - Mrs Jos **
Read below to find out about what our students are learning about in each learning area this term.
** Social Worker Update **
We welcome Ruth, our new social worker, to Kingston State School for Term 2.
** Community Update **
A big thankyou to QUOTA Beenleigh for their wonderful donation this week. Each of our year 2 students received a copy of the book “Logan, Then and Now” written by local author Karen Tyrrell. This term, our Year 2 students will be learning all about significant places in Logan City so this book will make an excellent addition to the English and HASS units of work.
