** Principal Update **

On Thursday, Mrs Argue led our whole school ANZAC Day Parade.  Thank you to those parents who were able to attend this commemoration.  We were privileged to be joined by Captain Timothy John, who was able to share some information during the commemoration with our students about the importance of this day.  Each class made wreaths and representatives from each class did a wonderful job in laying their wreaths.  We thank Captain Timothy John for his time and we look forward to welcoming him back to Kingston SS in the future.

Thank you to all of our families, students and staff, for a settled start to Term 2.  Our teachers have been focussing this week on behavioural expectations this week.  Expectations are the valued beliefs or attitudes that we want students to display. Rules are the specific behaviours that define what students need to do to meet the expectations.  To ensure that we are consistent across our school, all of our teachers have been explicitly teaching these expectations to support all of our students to be safe, responsible learners.

In the next few weeks, Kingston State School will undergo a School Review.  Please see the information below to learn more about the review process and the importance of parent and community feedback to further enhance school improvement.

As mentioned in the previous edition of the newsletter, we have updated our Sun Safety policy.  This will also be available on the website.  Sunscreen is available in all classrooms for students who are unable to access sunscreen before school to independently apply throughout the day.  Please also note, that if a student does not have a hat, they will be able to play in undercover areas only.

** Year 1 Update **

In our Year 1 incursion, students embarked on an exciting exploration of the natural, managed, and constructed features around our school. Through hands-on activities and guided discovery, they identified and discussed the differences between trees, gardens, playgrounds, and buildings. This engaging experience helped deepen their understanding of the environment and how people interact with and shape the spaces around them.

Distractions, stress and changes in routine can lead to devastating outcomes. A child left in a car, even briefly, is at serious risk. Temperatures rise quickly and can be fatal. Always check the back seat—every single time.

💡 Tips for families:

– Place your bag in the back seat

– Use a mirror to see your child

– Say a mental checklist: baby, keys, bag

Look Before You Lock. Every. Single. Time. Please help us share this life-saving habit. For more information: www.qld.gov.au/lookbeforeyoulock.

May is Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Prevention Month. This year’s theme is ‘Take positive action today to build a safer Queensland’. Our school is taking positive action by helping students learn about safe and respectful relationships, and assisting students and families impacted by DFV to access support. Visit the Queensland Government’s DFV prevention month web page to learn more about:

  • DFV
  • the support available
  • how to help someone experiencing DFV
  • the DFV prevention month activities taking place in our community.
