Principal Update
As we move through the term, it is wonderful to see our learning routines being consolidated. Across the school, we are focussing on teaching the many explicit skills that students need in order to be able to read a text, and, be able to understand a text. You will have the opportunity to see how your child is progressing in reading, along with other aspects of English, and other learning areas within the curriculum at our upcoming Parent Teacher Interviews. More information will be sent to families very soon so that you can use our new online booking system to choose your time to meet with your child's class teacher, specialist or inclusion teacher.
From time to time, children can be sick and need to have time away from school to recover. If this is the case, please respond to the daily text message that gets sent each morning to communicate that your child is absent, or phone the office. Bringing a note in the next day, or emailing the school are also ways in which the reason for absences can be communicated. Sometimes, students may present unwell at school and as a result, school staff may call for those students to be collected. It can be confusing at times to know the reason for a sickness and consulting a doctor is always the best option. The information below from Queensland Health may be helpful for families.
Guidance Officer Update
With the end of year fast approaching, it’s a great time to remind everyone about The Smith Family’s Saver Plus Program and the $500 you can receive to help with your child’s education costs. The money families receive from the program, along with some advice on budgeting, help kids to be prepared for school with all the right gear!
Saving goals are education related products or services that assist a student’s education. These may include:
If you would like to check your eligibility and receive a call back, please call the national number 1300 610 355 or click on the following link: Saver Plus - Enquire Now and a local coordinator will contact you directly.
Deputy Principal Update
Behaviour focus
Our current behaviour focus, be safe, has had a specific focus on responding positively. Students demonstrate this behaviour through self-check-ins, pause, breathe and think, use I statements to communicate needs in a positive way, and asking for help if needed. Demonstrating this behaviour supports wellbeing and positive and productive learning environments. This focus provides an opportunity for families to discuss and reflect on how we respond to situations at home and at school.
Prep 2025
Our enrolments for Prep 2025 have commenced. If you have a child born between July 2019-June 2020 they are eligible to enrol for Prep for next year.
We have been lucky enough to have some of our Kindy friends visit to support transitions to school in 2025. Check out the photos of our Kindy friends engaging with their Year 5 buddies. We have implemented this buddy system to build leadership in our students moving into Year 6 next year and to help support successful transitions for prospective students.
Prep 2025 orientation sessions, Powering into Prep, have commenced. During these sessions, prospective students and their parents engage in activities in a Prep classroom, becoming familiar with the school environment.
Sessions run each Thursday from 9-10am, with the final session on 5 December. Parents are to wait with their child/ren in the undercover Prep area to be collected by a Prep teacher at 9am.
We look forward to seeing our 2025 Preps at the sessions, wearing their new school shirts.
