Principal Update
Good afternoon everyone,
As we start Week 3, I wanted to share with all parents and carers that Parent Teacher Interviews will be happening this term. We are going to be trialling an online process for booking this year and we look forward to getting this information out to you all as soon as possible. I encourage you to meet with your child's teacher so that we can have the opportunity for teachers, parents and carers to discuss student achievement and learning behaviour, share children's progress and establish goals for improved learning and achievement in the future.
Please ensure that if you have a child who is eligible for Prep in 2025, that you have contacted the office to book your time for the enrolment meeting. Transition activities are ongoing for children who have enrolled. Eligibility for Prep is from the beginning of the school year in which they will reach the age of 5 years by 30 June. All Queensland children are required to undertake prep, prior to commencing Year 1.
We have MANY events coming up throughout the term - some of these events may be events that Kingston State School has been having for some time and this forms a very important part of the school culture. You may notice some new events as well coming up to celebrate our amazing Kingston students. Invitations and notifications to these events will come via email, newsletter notifications and throughout FaceBook page.
If you haven't yet had the opportunity to, please don't forget to come on down to FamilyLinq to enrol and learn more about this amazing facility that houses some amazing services for our Kingston community.
Thank you,
Robyn Marshall

The term ahead will be a busy one for all our students as they bring together all their learning from the year and celebrate the success and growth they have made in 2024.
Below is an overview of what our students will be learning this term in class.
Prep
Our Preppies will explore different types of stories with familiar characters and structures. They will learn all about what makes a sentence and how we put sentences together to make wonderful stories. By the end of term, they will be writing and creating retells of their favourite stories.
Year 1
Our year one students are reading stories with clear sequences of events. They will explore characters and narrative structures across the term and will be writing their own recount of a story they love.
Year 2
Year two students are reading Tashi stories this term and are learning all about his encounters with gnomes, dragons and giants. At the end of the term, they will use all of their learnt knowledge to create a new adventure story for one of the Tashi characters.
Year 3
Year three are reading the story Kumiko and the Dragon. In the story Kumiko, our main character, learns all about overcoming a fear. The students will create their own stories about overcoming a fear.
Year 4
Our students in Year four and investigating what makes a great adventure story. This term they are reading the Australian classic Rowin of Rin. At the end of the term, they will create their own adventure stories.
Year 5
In Term Four, our year five students are reading the novel “The Callers”. This fantasy novel is set in a mythical place where people have the magical ability to call things from nowhere, or so they think. Our students will be investigating what makes a great fantasy story and will be writing their own at the end of the term.
Year 6
This term, our year six students will be investigating informative texts and will apply the knowledge they have learnt about natural disaster and informative texts to create a natural disaster awareness brochure.
Our students have worked extremely hard this year and we look forward to sharing their work with you later in the term.
Year 5 STEM Excursion
Due to Wednesday’s forecasted weather our year five students did not get to attend the STEM Challenge Day at Kingston College. To ensure our students get to participate in a STEM challenge we will be organising a school event later in the term.

Welcome back to term 4 everyone. We are definitely in for a busy one!
Some important information for Parents of Students with Disabilities is that there are 2 transition days over at Kingston College, coming up this term that you can send your child along to, if your child identifies as a year 6 student with a disability and if you are planning on having them attend Kingston State College in year 7 in 2025. Please see the flyer below for more information. We are not running this as an excursion. Please drop your students off at the College on the days of the transitions and collect them from there at the end of the day. More information will be sent home shortly.
Another important spot of information regarding the TIS: Last term we had a trial of “Clubs” for students who utilise the TIS in break times and for students interested in the activities we had running. Later in the term we will trial another model of accessing this space. This is so we can ascertain the best model to support our students with disability and students on structured play and move forward with that.
Thank you for continuing to supporting us, to support your children!
